Always My Baby
by Nancy Van De Vaarst

You were not planned, but how I wanted you.
You were not held, but I touched you.
You were called an embryo, but I called you my baby.
You no longer had a heartbeat, but my heart still beat for you.
You may be gone, but I will never forget you.
You now live with your sister, but I am your family too.
You never got to know me, but I knew you.
No, you were not planned, but oh how I loved you.

After 2 miscarriages, my husband and I continued to try for a 3rd child without success. Since it was putting a strain on our marriage, we decided to stop and be thankful for the two beautiful, healthy girls we already had. Without trying, I then got pregnant, but shortly after lost my baby. You may contact Nancy at vandevaa@us.ibm.com.
